Sound Baths & Sound Healing
Sound Baths Explained
What is a Sound Bath?
People have been using sound to promote healing for thousands of years. For example, ancient Greek physicians used musical instruments as therapy believing that the instruments' vibrations could aid in digestion, treat mental disturbance, and induce sleep. Meanwhile, ancient Egyptians thought musical incantations healed the sick. During a sound bath, you will typically lie on the ground while I play a variety of sounds with various musical instruments in order to create a relaxing, meditative experience for the group. Most sound baths combine a mix of different instruments because each gives off different frequencies, or vibrations. You may hear: -Metal singing bowls -Crystal bowls -Chimes -Tuning forks -Gongs -Drums I also may talk during the session, similar to a guided meditation, and I may instruct the group in breathwork as well. Note: Sound bath sessions may go by different names, including sound therapy and sound bowl meditation. A sound bath seeks to balance our physical, emotional, and mental systems, restoring a sense of harmony. While a sound bath is supposed to bring you into a deep state of meditation, you don't need experience in meditation to try it. Anyone can so please give it a try.
What are the benefits of a Sound Bath?
-Deepening relaxation -A lowering of stress and anxiety -Improved mood and well-being -Improved sleep -Heightening focus and energy -A feeling of rejuvenation Although these are common benefits, different people react to sound baths in different ways. For example, one person might feel especially relaxed, while another might feel a boost of energy. The idea of a sound bath can seem "out there" to some people. But I encourage anyone to try it once because of its relaxing effects. A sound bath offers an opportunity to pause, whether you find it in person at a yoga studio or meditation centre, or online during a virtual sound bath or at this beautiful retreat in the perfect setting under a starry Costa Rica sky. Being able to access a moment of stillness internally when everything is rapidly swirling around outside of you (or perhaps also inside) is like a superpower and a huge gift to yourself.
What happens during a Sound Bath?
You will lie on the floor on a yoga mat with cushions and blankets for comfort. When the sound begins you will listen as it fills the room. Time is suspended as you enter a world of vibration, sensation and experience.
How does Sound heal?
Every cell in your body vibrates at a particular frequency.
As the sound travels through your body the healing frequencies and vibrations are experienced by every cell, tissue and organ. This helps to release tension and stress and return the body to balance.
Who can attend?
Our sound baths are open to everyone, but there are a few situations where help may be needed, or caution is advised. They are: -If you have difficulty lying on the floor this evening is not suitable for you as it will not be comfortable. -If you have had metal plates fitted within the last 12 months, the sound can vibrate them, and this can feel uncomfortable – so wait 12 months please. -If you have a pacemaker fitted this is not a therapy for you. -If you are pregnant please wait until after the first trimester. -If you have had major surgery please wait 3 months. Sound healing can bring up emotions so if you are going through a very stressful time please ring us before booking.

How will I benefit from one to one Sound healing?
There is nothing expected of you in an individual Sound Healing session – just to lie back, close your eyes and relax. You remain fully clothed and a blanket is provided for your comfort. You will hear the beautiful overtones of Tibetan Singing bowls and feel their vibrations entering your body. Some people use the experience as an inward meditation, some people go on a visual sound journey in their imaginations , some people just lie there eyes closed listening, feeling the vibrations and some people fall asleep and snore …all part of the sound experience! Often people don’t fall asleep but go to a place of deep relaxation – ‘somewhere in between’ – it’s hard to describe until you experience it! The vibrations and sounds you are hearing and feeling are working at the cellular level and are resetting your body’s natural frequencies to heal itself and work more efficiently. You may feel a variety of sensations and emotions during the session and every session is different. After the session you should feel deeply relaxed, but may experience a variety of emotions over the next few days as the energy shifts in your body. Drink plenty of water and allow your body’s natural healing abilities to happen. There are some people that sound therapy is not suitable for and these include: - If you’re in the first trimester of pregnancy -If you have a pace maker, metal plates or implants. -If you are within 3 months of a major surgery or emotional upheaval in your life. -Participants will be asked to remove jewellery before we begin … this is giving you a head start!
